To go anywhere north of Santa Fe, I drive, like everyone else. When I photographed for my book Mortal Highway, I always was driving, searching, and stopping for descansos. From those expeditions, I became curious about communities along and off the main road, north US285/84, centered upon mobile homes and old adobes. From there I also took detours to the old Hispanic villages of Cordova, Cundiyo, Chamisal, Penasco, Truchas, and many other roads and places in the north.
